September, 2008
Hello to All Parents and Students;
It is with great excitement that I greet you all at the start of
another school year. To all our new families, I welcome you to our
school community. To all our returning students and families, I
welcome you back for another year. Our school population is staying
pretty close to our average of 340 students. We have students in
grades three up to and including grade seven in three different
programmes: regular English programme; Russian Bilingual Programme
in grades 3-7; and Late French Immersion for grades 6 and 7.
Mr. Evdokimoff,
our vice-principal, and I and the rest of our staff are ready
for the start of our 2008/09 school year. There are a lot
of things we have planned this year. We did three special
event afternoons last year as part of our school goal to improve
school culture and we plan to continue with these special
events this year. We will use the student survey we developed
last year to track our progress over time. We have two other
school improvement goals, both focusing on improved reading
achievement: Primary Guided Reading Blocks; and Daily Intermediate
Silent Reading sessions. |

| This year we are starting
a daily physical activity programme. Every Monday and Wednesday
some classes will start the day with a jogging/power walk
programme outside on our field. This will be a rain or shine
activity so dressing appropriately for the weather will be
more important than usual.
Our School Fruit and Vegetable programme that was started
in January last year will start up again this September. Students
will get a fresh vegetable or fruit snack twice a week every
other week.
We have had a focus for the last two years on Virtues, and
we are continuing to use 54 different Virtues to help students
develop good habits and model good behaviour. Our School Creed
of Rights and Responsibilities is published in our School
Handbook. The Code of Conduct for our school is also published
in this booklet. Each student will bring home the handbook
in the opening days of school.
This handbook is filled with important information about our
school including the school times, important dates, a staff
list of employees at our school, the Safe Arrival phone number,
etc. As well, this information is included within this website.
It also may come in handy to Bookmark (CTRL+D) this site for
convenient reference.
I look forward to seeing you at the school
at our various functions and activities. Please feel free
to contact me with
any concerns, or comments and suggestions for this website.
